Inexplicable

Poems by Paula Grenside

The first words, sticky—
detonating thoughts,
bumps in hearts
choke lungs in grips of trepidation—

The first touch, electric—
starry wires pull bodies,
fingers scorch skin,
dragonflies on eyelids—

First merging, incandescent—
blue silk falls to the floor
wet-laced trails track lavender paths
stemmed flowers vibrate in Chopin's nocturne,
gates open wide to fire meteors,
satellites' orbits of yes,
uneven illumination
on cobalt rivers,
eyes gleam
lips breathe
inexplicable greenness—
